Kiteboarding Equipment Maintenance - Board Inspection

Kiteboarder can drive all while being pulled by their dragons, kiteboards, wakeboards, surf, skimboards on water, snow skiing and snowboarding, or skateboarding, off-mountain board or buggy across the country. This is one of the best parts of kiteboarding. Many drivers have many plates are depending on the type of riding you do the programming, and although it is tempting to go and wants only serious, it is important to controlcondition of the board before riding to prevent gear failure while out on the water or two miles away from where you in chest deep powder.

Kiteboards are built tough and are unlikely to break over the course of their life, but there are a few elements of any board to inspect before riding. Here is a pre-ride checklist for kiteboards, and some repair tips for common damage.

For boards with fins, make sure all fin screws are tight before riding. Over time fin screws can become loose. Although not the end of the world if a fin is lost while riding, it can make the board harder to ride, and is expensive to replace. It only takes a second to tighten fin screws before riding.
Check to make sure bindings or foot straps are properly tightened as well. As with fin screws, these can loosen over time. If a footstrap or binding comes off while you are riding it can easily cause knee or ankle injury, and otherwise be very difficult to ride back anyway.
A good technique to prevent fin and footstrap screws from loosening is to use locktight on the screws when installing them on the board.

To prevent loose screws, Lock-tight is a mild adhesive that will hold the screw tight, but not permanently attach it if you ever want to take the screw out again.

Check for damage on the board. Although edge and base damage don't effect the performance of kiteboards or wakeboards as much as skis or snowboards, dents in the rails or gouges in the base that expose the core of the board can lead to water damage which will ruin the board, and should be fixed before riding.

It is relatively easy to fix damaged kiteboards by filling or sealing damaged areas with p-tex plastic or epoxy. To fix a gouge in the bottom of the board, sand down the area in and around the damage, clean with alcohol, and apply P-tex. P-tex generally comes in stick form, and is applied by lighting the end of the stick on fire, and dripping the melting plastic into the damaged area. Slightly overfill the damaged area, allow the P-tex to dry, and scrape off the excess with a hard plastic board scraper.

Damage to the edges or rails of a kiteboard should be sealed with epoxy. The damaged area first needs to be cleaned of broken pieces of board and dirt, and sanded all around the area. If the impact that caused the damage also pushed the top and bottom of the board apart, you will need a clamp as well to squeeze the board back together after the epoxy is applied. Apply the epoxy, forcing as much inside the damaged area as possible, and clamp the board back together if necessary. Next, smooth the excess epoxy along and around the edge of the board. This can be done using plastic wrap, a soft plastic card, or your gloved finger. It is not entirely necessary to reshape the edge of the board perfectly, as it is with skis or snowboards. The edge just needs to be sealed from water entering and hold the board together.

Super glue, surfboard, or ski and snowboard wax can also be used to temporarily seal damaged areas in kiteboards if you have to use the board and don't have time to fix it, but will only last a short while and can be difficult to clean out before making a proper repair.

Installation of Snowboard Bindings

Installing and attuning snowboard bindings is quite a simple provisional task. It has need of a team of tools only and usually takes about an hour or less to perform. Nothing like ski bindings, they have no quick-release devices that have need of a skill of a technician to polish up DIN settings. By the time that you strap on your snowboard bindings, you are one with the snowboard-intricately connected together on each run and each wipeout.

Every couple of bindings has a right foot and a left foot. In fact, you can distinguish the dissimilarity through the direction of the curvature in the forefoot, immediately like with a boot or a shoe. When it is properly buckled, each strap begins on the inside or on the outside. Deciding your idyllic stance is topic that engenders extensive opinions amongst snowboarders. You can actually listen and get the views from your friends who are knowledgeable with snowboard bindings but, eventually, the paramount decision will be decided by you which are based through your understanding of your own riding style.

The best way to go is start by placing your board lying on the floor (if possible a carpeted floor) when you have any doubt about testing in on the snow. Start doing simple tests. Then, stand on it. Imagine yourself sliding a mountain. Imitate the way you would place yourself for the duration of such a slide. Study your feet. That is a upright starting position for deciding the stance angle and width, though you are expected to trifle with such things on your full snowboarding career.

First, determine your lead foot that most likely comes naturally. Your lead foot is commonly utilized during any of the activities such as when you are riding a skateboard or a surfboard, will probably be the similar one that you will utilize on a snowboard. Next, snowboards are usually outfitted with a few type of binding boundary, most frequently as twofold clusters of fasten holes on any side of the midpoint of the board.

If you use bolt-mounting holes, determine on how you will attach the bindings to the holes since it comes in two ways. First is when you decide on having it centered- that is, zero stance setback. This posture permits the board to revolve easily and it provides a rider the feeling of excellent control. It is exceptional for switch riding; freestyle riders are fond of the fair feeling it gives. Setback is where you slightly situate back from center. This is frequently the favored stance of riders who take pleasure in the directional management they obtain from being nearer the back of the snowboard.

After that, determine your stance width. It describes the expanse between your feet or the middle of each binding when they are strapped in. Then, you should identify your preferred stance angle as well. It describes the angle that the mounted binding generates whenever it crosses that longitudinal axis of the snowboard.

Repeat the process for setting up your back binding and then enjoy snowboarding.

101 Uses For Duct Tape

Duct Tape, what useful stuff. You bought a bunch to hold your basement ductwork together. But, what to do with those leftover rolls? How Good is the Burton Infinite Channel System (ICS)?

I have been riding the Burton ICS since the start of the season. I have tried it on a range of Burton snowboards with both EST and 3D bindings and in many varied conditions. I will not be going back.

Using a channel system to attach bindings to a snowboard is not a brand new idea. But the way Burton has implemented it is and that is what I think makes the Burton ICS worth a very good look.

Before you go ahead and purchase a Burton ICS board there are a few things you should know.

1. If you have Burton 3D bindings you can attach them to your board with new binding plates which are free from Burton
2. If you do not have Burton bindings check with your dealer to see if new binding plates are available from your binding company. At the time of writing there were no alternative plates available for most of the better known brands.
3. The future is ICS so if you are going to purchase a new board don't compromise because your old bindings don't fit.

ICS stands for 'Infinite Channel System' and when it comes to setting up your board the key word here is infinite. With traditional systems you are bound by fixed positions on the board and on the plates. With ICS you can move the bindings fractionally in all directions to achieve your perfect stance width and foot position. Angles and widths are easily set by the new angle / reference viewing window. If you carry a tool when riding it is very easy to make changes by loosening the two screws on each binding. You do not need to lift the binding off the board to adjust the plate position or angles... this is a major plus point.

To accompany the channel system Burton have produced a new range of bindings which are referred to as EST. In addition to the two point fixings Burton have improved the foot bed and the most obvious difference to me is the comfort of the cushioning.

If you already have Burton 3D bindings you can fix them to the new ICS system but you do not get the same level of flexibility when setting up. If you have any concerns with regards to using your old Burton bindings let me allay them... they work and they work well... but my advice is to go all the way and get a EST bindings.

Safety Precautions & Equipment That Reduce the Risks in Home Renovations and Improvements

Home improvement for the weekend do-it-yourselfer is hard enough due to time constraints, resources;and well let's face it, skill. One of the biggest mistakes a weekend DIY makes is ignoring the importance of safety procedures and tools. In their haste to get the job done, they ignore simple safety steps that take a little more time, but create an environment that allows for a better result. They also leave some of the most important tools in the tool shed. These tools are not the most glamorous, they are not connected to or began with a string, they just hang on peg boards in the garage across the country, waiting to be asked to do their job.

What are these tools and procedures? Here is a list of simple precautions and equipment that makes home remodeling experience safer for the do-it-yourself:

· Keep all tools in good condition with regular maintenance.
· Use the right tool for the job.
• Check all instruments for damage beforeuse.
· Operate tools according to the manufacturers' instructions.
· Provide and properly use the right personal protective equipment.

Perform regular maintenance to ensure your tools are working properly. Be sure to clean all your tools after each job and inspect them for wear and/or damage that might have occurred during usage. For example:

· When using a table saw or circular saw, clean the blade after usage and inspect to see if there is excessive wear. A dull saw blade can result in binding and kick back that can be very harmful and sometimes fatal.

· Nail Guns should be oiled and cleaned with each usage. Never attempt to clear a jammed nail gun while still connected to an air hose.

These may seem like obvious procedures, but in our haste the little things get overlooked.

Using the right tool for the right job; sounds simple right? How many times have you stood on a chair, especially one that swivels, and attempted to screw in a light bulb or hammer in a nail? Or cut a board with a circular saw by laying it across your thigh, instead of using a solid cutting base? These actions are dangerous, especially when you have ignored the first rule of keeping your tools in proper working order.

Reading instructions are not most men's strong suit, myself included. When it comes to power tools, however, ten minutes of reading can save you a whole lot of misery down the road; plus when you learn the right way to use your tools, it makes whatever project you're working on more enjoyable.

Protective equipment and procedures are the biggest tool in your safety arsenal:

· Goggles
· Ear Protection
· Proper Footwear
· Gloves

All of these provide a level of safety that is taken for granted.

Goggles are replaced with squinting eyes, ear protection is forsaken because we are not in our later years when the damage truly shows up, or it's summer time and flip flops are more comfortable while you are chopping wood or climbing ladders, the list goes on.

Truth be told, one of the main differences between the professional craftsman and the weekend do-it-yourselfer is the attention to detail, and this is especially true when it comes to safety precautions. Through years of experience, a true craftsman has learned the value of properly working tools and takes the necessary steps for completing a project safely. If the contractor you hire is standing on a railing, cutting a rafter with a sawzall while not wearing goggles, you have done a really poor job in choosing your home remodeler.

A great place to go to find out more on safety procedures and tools is the Occupational Safety & Hazard Administration's website.

Just because you are a weekend Do-It-Yourselfer, doesn't mean you have to be a danger to yourself and your family. Take the added time to work smartly and safely, it will show in the end results. Whatever your next project is, good luck and be safe. When in doubt, hire a professional home remodeler or landscaper and save yourself time, stress and money.
